The quest to become a learning organization is far from easy and will require somewhat of a cultural change. But what strategies do you use to build a learning culture within your company?

Last time, I showed you the benefits of a tool like Poka to build your learning culture. As I said, training and collaboration can be approached by three pillars of learning in factories. I already told you about The Critical Equipment Strategy.

Now let’s concentrate on the second pillar.

The New Employees' Onboarding Strategy

This strategy is used when companies want to improve the onboarding process for new employees in their factories. At Poka, we will work with our client to develop an onboarding process for a few entry level workstations where new employees are assigned. Typically, we will focus on these three areas:

1. Poka Academy

  • How to use Poka
  • Manufacturing best practices
  • General ERP introduction and KPIs
  • Basic Safety requirements (Loto, confined space, forklift safety, etc.)
  • 5S Introduction and lean principles
  • Values and history of the company

2. Workstation

This is where we map and document all knowledge relevant to each workstation. Typically, we will create guides on the following topics:

  • Safety: Fire emergency procedures, workstation risk analysis and ergonomic best practices.
  • Operations: ERP transactions for that workstation, leader standard works, 5S specific instructions
  • Quality: General inspection of the workstation, how to do quality checks, how to inspects raw materials & finished products, etc.

3. Equipment

This is where we map and document all knowledge relevant to each workstation. Typically, we will create guides on the following topics:

  • Equipment introductions
  • Understanding the products
  • Beginning of shift
  • Setup
  • Adjustments
  • End-of-shift guides
  • Quality inspections
  • Critical success points for operation and quality

With Poka you can now update all of your employees’ knowledge in real time. Now, the only challenge is to create enough content to build a strong learning culture within your company. Ease your employees onboarding process, and create a collaborative learning environment in your factories with a tool that matches the speed and degree of the industrial revolution.
